Cool Roofs and Energy Efficiency in California

A cool roof is a roof that reflects more sunlight and absorbs less heat than a standard roof, lowering roof temperature and releasing less heat into the environment.  California has established legal requirements that come into effect when you replace your roof, because the science on this doesn't lie. We will help you choose a lighter color or more reflective shingle to help reduce the suns heat before it has a chance to penetrate your homes attic.

A cool roof decreases your need for cooling equipment during the heat of the summer by reducing the heat gain inside your home. This can equals long term energy savings as high 7% a year, simply from a reduction of your air conditioning needs. That previous 150ºF surface roof temperature could be 50ºF cooler with a cool roof. A cool roof reduces energy usage, saving you money, and will also help stabilize the temperatures in your unconditioned spaces, like the garage or the bonus room.

Low Slope / Flat Roofing

Installing a flat roof on your home – Know your options

Just as with asphalt shingle installation, there are many different installation methods and materials that can be installed. Flat roofing is usually installed on low pitched roof areas, typically on anything  that is lower than a 3/12 pitch. The reason behind this different roofing method is the fact that water tends to drain slower on low pitches and even pools in certain areas. Regular shingles just won't stand up to having that much water on them, especially in a windy rain storm. One option for low pitched roofs can be standing metal seam, although it can be a more costly option. Bright Home Energy Services recommends you choose between Owens Corning's Deck Seal System or high quality TPO (Thermoplastic polyolefin) roofing.  Both of these materials can be installed with different thickness and solar reflection requirements and it is also very important the connected roof drainage systems are proper.  Our roofing advisors can give you options and more details to help you choose the proper low slope roofing installation material and method after a roof inspection.
